Passengers at DFW can skip bag, security re-check after London flights

Travelers flying from London to America’s second-busiest airport can now save tons of time before catching a connecting flight.

American Airlines on Tuesday announced the start of the long-awaited “one-stop” security setup at its Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) home base.

As part of the trial setup, DFW-bound passengers from London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) will be able to skip the baggage and security re-check — easily one of the most inconvenient parts of returning to the U.S. from an international trip.

American announced the launch of the one-stop program in collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration.

“With this game-changing program and thanks to our federal partners at CBP and TSA, along with DFW Airport, our customers will spend significantly less time worrying about an onerous connection process and more time enjoying their travel journey.”

The rollout of this new one-stop program in the U.S. came months after travelers from DFW and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) gained the ability to skip the dreaded security re-check when catching a flight connection on the other side of the Atlantic, at Heathrow.

Early reports from airlines suggested that program was already saving travelers up to 45 minutes per trip in London.

The one-stop security program on the U.S. side was expected to include additional airports in the near future — perhaps Atlanta.
