The Children’s Book Review
What to Expect: Starting school, special talents, family, friends, and Christian values.
In this faith and family-oriented picture book, readers will learn that having special talents also comes with special responsibilities, all within the context of Christian values and teachings.
Timmy the Bunny’s parents have known since he was born that God gave him a special gift—unlimited energy and super speed! When Timmy starts school, they let him know about his gift, because they want him to know he is special, but also because they want him to remember to use his gift in the right way. On the first day of school, Timmy impresses all his friends when he demonstrates his special gift. However, it’s the second day that is really magical—when Timmy learns he can share his gift with others and use it to help them when they are in trouble. Timmy truly is special!
Timmy is an animal character with very human qualities, including pride, respect, and care for his friends and family. The text is simple, with short, straightforward sentences suitable for new readers. Speech bubbles are included throughout the hand-drawn, childish pencil illustrations that repeat key ideas and help readers identify the essential themes in the story.
Timmy the Gifted Bunny offers a helpful starting point for discussion for parents who want to teach their children about responsibility and Christian values.
